Las Vegas Holidays, better than you imagined! Las Vegas is home to an array of entertainment options, from stage plays, to acrobatic performances. Most visit for a chance to strike it rich at the black jack table or to hear the jingle of change falling from the slot machines. If you do a bit of homework prior to traveling, you will find there is more to this town than gambling and fancy shows. Las Vegas hotels provide many more options than a place to lay your head or gamble. A few hotels actually offer suites resembling studio or one bedroom apartments and no casino on the main level so you can take a break from all the flashing lights and sirens.

Several hotels put on theme parties and parades each night complete with tossed beads and candy. Others create atmospheres inside resembling amusement parks and famous cities. Each establishment has one or more restaurants, while some have interesting stores in which to shop.

Known simply as Vegas, and sometimes referred to as Sin City, had a humble start. The area was initially home to Paleo and Anasazi Indians hundreds of years ago. In the mid-1800s the Mormons established a fort for resupplying travelers between Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, California. Later they abandoned the area and mining and farming took over. Because of its location it soon became a crossroads for railroad travelers. Since its formation as a city in 1905 it has had several growth spurts. The building of the Hoover Dam in 1931 brought construction workers to the area who were able to take advantage of legalized gambling. At the beginning of World War II it grew again with the placement of Nellis Air Force Base on the northeast side.

The end of the war saw the biggest growth as many hotels and casinos were built to create a big resort destination. As early as the late 1940s tourism and entertainment became the biggest employer and greatest attraction to the city, and remains that way today. In the 1960s aviation pioneer, Howard Hughes encouraged corporations to invest in Las Vegas Hotels. In addition to corporate investment, mafia families from the East Coast and Midwest took charge of several establishments.

Vegas is a place that keeps reinventing itself, or at least its hotels. Many of the first hotels and casinos were torn down so that they could be rebuilt or another could take its place that was even bigger and better. Some hotels are known for its restaurants serving top notch cuisine, while others offer fireworks or elaborate water fountain displays. The skyline is quite unique with several hotels built to resemble famous buildings or structures from around the world.

The city frequently hosts industry trade shows and corporate conventions. Convention centers and grand halls that accommodate vehicles and exhibits are built with connecting walkways to various hotels. Meetings and retreats are often held in Las Vegas so that attendees can play in the evenings or eat at five star restaurants.

Getting around the popular areas of the city can be slow going in a vehicle. Because of all the amazing hotels to look at, and the street shows, traffic tends to back up or move very slowly making walking a better option. The concierge at your hotel can advise you on renting cars or taking public transportation or tours to go golfing, viewing or hiking in state and national parks.

All five senses will be alive during a visit to Vegas. This city knows how to put on a bright and loud show. Your taste buds will be tempted daily to try out one or more of the amazing restaurants or bars before or after holding a hand of cards or rolling the dice. A trip here is definitely one you won’t forget.
